Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Applying the Saniderm: Your artist will explain these steps to you and apply Saniderm (adhesive bandage) to your tattoo at your appointment.

Duration of Saniderm: Leave the Saniderm on your tattoo for 4-5 days, not including the day it was applied.

Water Resistance: The wrap is water-resistant, but not waterproof. Avoid submerging it in water.

Showering: Avoid direct and prolonged contact with water while showering. Brief water contact is okay. If water gets on the wrap briefly, it won't harm, but it may cause the wrap to adhere more to your skin and become slightly uncomfortable.

Drying the Wrap: After showering, gently pat the Saniderm dry with a clean, dry towel.

Observations During Healing (4-5 Days)

Fluid Buildup: It’s normal for the wrap to accumulate black liquid (excess ink, blood, and plasma).

Excessive Fluid: Contact your tattoo artist immediately if you notice a significant amount of fluid under the wrap.

Physical Activity: Avoid excessive movement and activities that could cause sweat or irritation under the wrap.

Peeling Edges: If the edges of the wrap start to peel, trim and remove any non-adhering parts.

Water or Debris Intrusion: Contact your artist immediately if water or debris gets under the wrap.

Concerning Signs: If you experience unusual irritation, redness after 3 days, severe pain, or inflammation, or have any questions about your tattoo or Saniderm, don’t hesitate to contact your artist.

Removing the Wrap

Preparation: Clean your hands and the area around the wrap with antibacterial liquid soap before removing the Saniderm. Avoid bar soap or contaminated soaps. Recommended: Liquid Pump Dial Gold Antibacterial Soap.

Wrap Removal: After completing the 4-5 day period, remove the wrap after allowing it to soak in warm water for at least 5 minutes during a bath or shower. This loosens the adhesive for easier removal.

Method of Removal: Start at the top, slowly peeling the Saniderm off in the bath or shower, allowing warm water to facilitate easier removal.

Post-Removal: Your tattoo will be dry and covered in the previously mentioned hardened black liquid.

Cleaning the Tattoo: With clean hands, gently apply unscented antibacterial liquid soap in a slow circular motion. Clean thoroughly but gently. Avoid using paper towels, loofahs, or cloth.

Rinsing: Rinse the tattoo with lukewarm water, ensuring no soapy residue remains. Any adhesive residue will naturally come off over the next few days.

Drying the Tattoo: Pat it dry with a clean, lint-free cloth or paper towel. Allow it to air dry completely. Do not rub.

Regular Cleaning: Repeat the cleaning process 2-3 times a day until the tattoo is fully healed.

Post-Cleaning Care: After cleaning, if the tattoo is dry or peeling (similar to a sunburn), apply a non-scented lotion for dry skin. Continue using it even after the tattoo is healed for maintenance. Recommended products: Lubriderm, Aveeno, Eucerin, or similar lotions.

Lotion Application: After cleaning, apply a non-scented lotion for dry skin every 3 hours for 4-5 days or whenever you feel dryness. Recommended products: Bepanthen, Aquaphor.

Additional Tips

Avoid Sweating: Avoid sweating under the wrap.

Sun Exposure: Avoid direct sunlight or tanning.

Sunscreen: Do not use sunscreen on your tattoo unless it is fully healed.

Water Activities: Do not swim, take baths, or use hot tubs until the wrap is removed and the tattoo is fully healed.

Don't Scratch: Do not pick or scratch at a healing tattoo
